From the official Falt4 website

Falt4 is a web content management system designed for small to midrange websites. The whole system has been released under the LGPL (lesser GPL License) and is, so called, "free software". The system comes with a lot of modules and even more core features, which come in very handy for daily use. Falt4 is easy to use and has been tested during the developmentphase on a lot of customers, where some of them had no website experience at all. Also included is a lesser seen feature in OpenSource systems: Falt4 is Multilingual in every aspect - and this is just the beginning. Including a system wide media database to manage all your files, a template editor and an integrated publishing system with versioning support are just a few of the strong core features of falt4.

There are various ways you can learn how to use Falt4.
  • Read the user documentation for basic knowledge
  • Read different coding tips and examples
  • Ask as much questions as you want on IRC or our Message Boards
  • Read Template tutorials
  • Try to understand Website templates

How to install Falt4

18.05.2007 Download the newest
Falt4 release
at sourceforge.net

Unpack the file and upload the content to your webspace (in an accessible directory).

You can find the installer in the directory /install/ (eg. http://your-webspace.tld/path/to/falt4/install/).

If the installer fails to set premissions to some directories you will have to do this by hand (eg chmod -R 655 templates/).

Now you have to create a new database (or reuse an existing) for Falt4.

Enter your database connection settings.

It will take a while for the database to be created. DO NOT abort now.

Now follows some basic Falt4 configuration:
  • Choose a Backend Language
  • Enter the desired administrator name
  • Choose a good password (best in combination with numbers)
  • Enter your email address if you want to get emails from your system
  • Insert the domainname or subdomain which points to this directory (www.your-site.com falt4.yoursite.com)
  • Enter the name of the language you are going to use on your site and pick the appropriate flag

Everything should now be set up correctly.

In order to get the system fully up and running you have to remove the directory /install/ !

Play around with the pre-installed templates or consult our user documentation or bulletin boards.
