1. Content Editors: Smile!
We're making our content mangement system the most powerful, efficient to use, and intuitive means for someone to edit their site.
We use terminology that people editing websites understand. For clarity's sake, anything geeky or related to hardcore development of a website is excluded from the interface. We're happy for others to claim to have the same features, because we focus on there being fewer steps and a more pleasurable experience. This is hard to do: how many years did we suffer before the iPhone showed a truly intuitive way to organise a phone's features?
This principal covers everything a content editor does: Adding a page, a link, or image--even editing images online. We let you drag and drop pages to manipuate your sitemap and menus, since that's the most logical and time-efficient way for you do it. But we also give you powerful features like staging sites, multilanguage support, human-friendly URLs, and comparing different versions of page over time. 2. Coders: Stretch out!
When developing a SilverStripe website you'll be staying up all night because you're having fun, not because you're stuck or moving at a slow pace.
Do you enjoy Ruby on Rails or Django as a way to quickly write stuff in fewer lines of code thanks to concepts like ActiveRecord, ORM and MVC? You'll love our Sapphire framework, giving you contemporary object-oriented goodness, focused on building database-driven websites. It runs on PHP (5.2+) so it's easy to learn and to find webhosting.
The framework lets you rapidly code up the "objects" your project uses (e.g. staff members, products, customers, along with their relationships). You then add a few lines of code and find SilverStripe has automatically added tables and columns to the database, let you use them in your website templates, and has added new "page types" and fields into the CMS for the content editor to utilise. As we said; stay up late for fun, not for your boss.
